JUST IN: “STOP PRODUCING REPORTS, START BUILDING POWER” — MOGHALU CHALLENGES NDIGBO

Think-Home Initiative Calls for Implementation, Investment and Measurable Development

UMUAHIA, ABIA STATE — Prof. Kingsley Moghalu has challenged Ndigbo to move beyond producing policy reports and convert collective ideas into measurable economic, cultural and institutional strength.

Moghalu, who chaired the committee that produced the Igbo Charter of Strategic Engagement for National Development, made the call in Umuahia on September 28, 2026, while delivering a lecture titled “The Igbo Charter and Development of Ala Igbo” at the 2026 Igbo Day celebration organised by Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. He argued that the Charter must move from paper to implementation through clear ownership, funding, targets and accountability.

For the Igbo Think-Home Development Initiative (Igbo Economic Initiative), the message reinforces a central principle: reports, conferences and policy documents have value, but their ultimate test is whether they produce investment, enterprises, employment, skills, technology, infrastructure and measurable results.

FROM REPORTS TO RESULTS

The Initiative calls for a deliberate shift from discussion to implementation and from ideas to productive capacity.

The practical questions should be:

What are we building? Who is investing? Who is being trained? How many enterprises and jobs are being created? What projects are being completed?

BUILDING ECONOMIC POWER

Economic strength develops through productive capacity, capital, technology, skills, institutions and market access.

The Think-Home agenda therefore prioritises technical and vocational education, modern apprenticeship, manufacturing, agro-processing, technology, enterprise finance, infrastructure, diaspora investment and knowledge transfer.

The objective is stronger participation in Nigeria and the global economy through competitive businesses, skilled people, productive assets and sustainable institutions.

A STRONGER INSTITUTIONAL RESPONSE

The Initiative calls on Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, South-East governments, legislators, traditional rulers, community leaders, business organisations, professional bodies, universities, financial institutions and the global Igbo diaspora to translate development priorities into coordinated action within their respective mandates.

This includes identifying credible projects, strengthening education-industry partnerships, supporting apprenticeship, facilitating appropriate investment, improving community participation, and connecting diaspora capital and expertise with properly documented opportunities.

IMPLEMENTATION COMMITMENTS

The Initiative proposes that participating stakeholders:

1. Designate appropriate focal points for Think-Home development engagement. 2. Develop a credible pipeline of properly screened projects. 3. Expand technical training, apprenticeship and industry partnerships. 4. Connect diaspora capital, technology and expertise with viable opportunities. 5. Support manufacturing, agriculture and value-added production. 6. Measure progress through investment, skills, enterprises, jobs and completed projects.

Participating institutions are encouraged to identify at least one practical commitment capable of commencing within 90 days of formal engagement, subject to their mandates, resources and applicable requirements.

FROM INTELLECTUAL CAPITAL TO PRODUCTIVE CAPITAL

Ndigbo possess extensive expertise across medicine, engineering, law, technology, finance, academia and business. The challenge is to connect that intellectual capital with finance, industry and implementation.

A research finding requires application. A business idea requires development and financing. A skilled young person requires opportunity. A community proposal requires responsible partnership.

THE THINK-HOME RESPONSE

THINK-HOME — Recognise the opportunity and responsibility.

INVEST-HOME — Mobilise capital, knowledge, skills and technology.

BUILD-HOME — Convert resources into enterprises, industries, infrastructure, institutions and sustainable communities.

AKU-RURU-ULO — LET WEALTH RETURN HOME.

The elders remind us that a person cannot harvest a field that was never cultivated. Reports and policies have their place, but development ultimately requires implementation.

The Think-Home Initiative therefore calls for a practical culture of building:

Build the skill. Build the enterprise. Build the technology. Build the institution. Build the future.

Its measure of success should not be the number of reports produced, but the economic capacity created and opportunities generated for present and future generations.
