Subject: An Urgent Call for Impartial Investigation, Accountability, Political Reconciliation and the Collective Protection of Igbo Interests

The United Igbo Political Congress (UIPC), a nonpartisan political, civic and leadership affairs programme of the Igbo Think-Home Development Initiative (Igbo Economic Initiative), respectfully calls upon Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the Igbo Think-Home Development Initiative, and the United Igbo Patrons and Elders Congress (UNIPECA) Worldwide, alongside Igbo political leaders, traditional rulers, elder statesmen and stakeholders at home and in the diaspora, to address concerns about political intimidation, alleged persecution, dehumanisation, unlawful detention and political violence affecting our people.

These concerns require credible investigation, responsible leadership and lawful accountability wherever wrongdoing is established. The dignity, security, unity and future of Ndigbo must take precedence over individual political ambitions and partisan interests.

1. THE NEED FOR COLLECTIVE IGBO LEADERSHIP

UIPC calls for an emergency consultative meeting of recognised Igbo leadership institutions to examine the political circumstances confronting our people and develop a coordinated, peaceful and lawful response.

The meeting should consider credible allegations of intimidation, incitement, violence and activities capable of deepening divisions within the Igbo political community. All concerned parties must have a fair opportunity to respond, and conclusions must rest on verifiable evidence rather than rumours or political accusations.

Political disagreement is legitimate in a democracy, but it must never justify violence, intimidation, destruction of property or the denial of fundamental rights.

As our elders wisely teach: “Egbe bere, ugo bere; nke si ibe ya ebena, nku kwaa ya”—let the eagle perch and let the kite perch; whichever denies the other space to perch, let its wings be broken.

This proverb reminds us that coexistence, mutual respect and fairness are essential to our collective survival.

2. ALLEGED POLITICAL THUGGERY AND THE DANGER OF IGBO AGAINST IGBO

UIPC expresses concern over a video reportedly circulating on 11 October 2026, allegedly showing gunfire involving individuals described as political thugs targeting supporters of the NDC in Enugu.

The footage’s authenticity, context, identities of those involved and alleged political affiliations require independent verification. UIPC does not presume guilt before investigation.

Nevertheless, credible reports of political violence demand urgent attention. Every citizen deserves personal safety and the freedom to participate lawfully in political activities.

What can Ndigbo gain when political competition turns brother against brother, endangering lives, livelihoods and community peace?

UIPC urges all political parties, candidates, supporters and campaign organisations throughout the South-East to reject violence, discourage inflammatory rhetoric and comply with the law. Anyone found responsible for criminal conduct should face appropriate action through impartial investigation and due process, irrespective of political affiliation, ethnicity or social standing.

3. AN URGENT IGBO PEACE AND RECONCILIATION FORUM

UIPC calls upon recognised Igbo consultative institutions to convene an inclusive peace forum involving relevant political representatives, community leaders and other stakeholders connected to reported incidents.

The forum should:

1. Establish the facts through credible, impartial investigations. 2. Give all concerned parties an opportunity to present their accounts. 3. Identify those responsible for violence on the basis of evidence. 4. Discourage inflammatory statements, intimidation and the mobilisation of violent groups. 5. Promote dialogue, reconciliation, tolerance and peaceful political competition.

6. Recommend lawful disciplinary measures or refer suspected criminal conduct to competent authorities. 7. Develop mechanisms for conflict prevention and sustained political consultation.

The objective must be truth, accountability and reconciliation—not partisan retaliation or protection of influential individuals.

4. RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP AND COLLECTIVE SOLIDARITY

UIPC urges Igbo leaders to rise above personal rivalries and act as responsible custodians of our shared heritage.

As another Igbo proverb teaches, “Otu osisi anaghị eme ọhịa”—one tree does not make a forest. Unity does not require identical political opinions; it requires cooperation where common interests are at stake.

Traditional rulers, elder statesmen, religious leaders, professionals, youth and women’s organisations, and diaspora communities are encouraged to promote peaceful engagement and mutual respect.

The defence of Igbo interests must remain nonpartisan, lawful and inclusive. No individual or organisation should claim exclusive ownership of the Igbo voice, and no disagreement should justify dehumanisation, collective blame or persecution.

5. CONCLUSION: JUSTICE, UNITY AND THE FUTURE OF NDIGBO

Justice and reconciliation are complementary. Lasting peace requires truth, fair accountability and respect for human dignity.

UIPC calls for calm, restraint, impartial investigation and urgent dialogue. As our elders remind us, “Eziokwu bụ ndụ”—truth is life. Without truth, justice weakens; without justice, reconciliation cannot endure.

Let us defend our collective interests without hatred, demand accountability without prejudice and pursue unity without suppressing legitimate differences.

The future of Ndigbo is greater than any individual ambition. Our unity must be strengthened by justice, guided by wisdom and sustained by peace.
